The Challenge
A craft beverage company was expanding into new warehouse facilities with a one-person IT team managing the entire technology stack. The existing network had been described internally as “messy” and in need of more than an extension; it needed to be rebuilt.
With over 100 employees spread across production, warehouse, and office environments, the sole IT person didn’t have capacity for complex on-premises authentication solutions. The company needed a solution that could operate with minimal hands-on management and without the need to build or maintain authentication infrastructure in-house.
The Solution
With support from their technology partner, the company deployed the SecureW2 JoinNow platform. The partner handled implementation and configuration from the start. This allowed the sole IT person to tend to the broader network rebuild rather than study certificate management and RADIUS administration practices.
The initial deployment licensed 100+ devices. As the company moved into new warehouse facilities, device count grew rapidly. Soon, they expanded to over 300.
As the deployment grew, certificate issues surfaced. Namely, devices retained certificates after decommissioning and some even received certificates in error. The technology partner worked with SecureW2 support to address these problems, diagnosing and resolving them without pulling IT away from daily operations.
The Results
- 300+ devices moved to Cloud RADIUS in just over a year. The company expanded from 100 to 300 devices while expanding into new facilities.
- Partner-managed deployment reduced IT burden. The technology partner handled implementation, so the company’s sole IT person could focus on the broader network, not learning certificate management and RADIUS practices.
- Certificate-based authentication across production and office environments. The company moved from a password-based network to certificate-based Wi-Fi for all connected devices.
With devices secured and the warehouse expansion continuing, the company has a scalable authentication layer that grows alongside the business. The technology partnership provides ongoing management support, keeping certificate-based Wi-Fi running across all facilities without adding headcount to the IT team.
