The Challenge
An enterprise augmented reality (AR) company was migrating its identity infrastructure to the cloud. They ran a mix of Windows and Mac devices, with employees working from the office and remotely across multiple states. Since password-based Wi-Fi authentication was the norm, the IT team had no experience with RADIUS or PKI.
The company needed a cloud-native solution that matched their cloud-first identity stack. Limited by the organization’s size, building and managing on-premises RADIUS infrastructure was not an option. The solution had to be simple enough for a lean IT team to deploy and maintain without specialized networking expertise.
The Solution
The company’s IT leaders chose the SecureW2 JoinNow platform for its combined cloud-native architecture, Mobile Device Management (MDM) integration, and hands-on support. The IT team configured the RADIUS server and PKI with their existing MDM, pushing SCEP-based certificate enrollment profiles to all Windows devices. Certificates replaced passwords for Wi-Fi authentication, with each device receiving a certificate tied to employee identity.
When a Windows profile issue surfaced during rollout, the SecureW2 support team responded immediately with the correct fix. The IT team pushed the updated profiles company-wide and began running through the fleet to verify enrollment across all devices.
With Windows device enrollment complete, the team moved to Mac enrollment through their MDM. SecureW2 support walked them through configuration on a live call, setting up certificate enrollment profiles for the device fleet. The deployment covered both in-office and remote employees, with the cloud-based RADIUS server handling authentication from any location.
The IT team also explored using the SecureW2 PKI for internal SSL server certificates on cloud-hosted web services — extending beyond Wi-Fi authentication and into broader certificate management. A developer on the team praised the certificate management portal for its clarity and ease of use, noting that it simplified a process they had been trying to solve through the native certificate store.
The Results
- Company-wide Windows deployment — certificate-based Wi-Fi authentication across all Windows devices
- Mac enrollment configured through MDM, extending certificate-based access to the full device fleet
- Zero RADIUS or PKI experience required — the IT team went from no background in certificate-based authentication to full deployment with SecureW2 support
After becoming familiar with the JoinNow Platform, the team plans to upgrade for additional certificate authorities, policy configurations, and higher availability. What began as a Wi-Fi authentication project is growing into a broader certificate management strategy.
